“My wife and I absolutely love this restaurant. My wife insists on stopping by every time we’re in town. Two must have’s are the French Onion Soup and the Escargot.The escargot melts in your mouth, and I have yet to find a comparable french onion soup.

They display local artists work on the walls, and the ambiance is very nice. If you’re in the Oxford Hills this is definitely the place to stop for a great meal.”

Maurice Restaurant Francais has been a fixture in the restaurant scene in the Oxford Hills andWestern Mainefor over 35 years. Located in South Paris on Route 26, Maurice Restaurant serves French-Continental cuisine in an elegant country atmosphere at affordable prices. 

Owner and Executive Chef Corey Sumner’s approach to cooking is “giving my customers a good value for their dollars. I also make food that tastes good but is simple – not overly complicated or too many flavors on the plate at the same time. I also take food that people can relate to and refine it:  dress it up a little more.”  

The menu features steaks, fish, chicken and duck. For lunch the choices range from traditional French dishes, such as Coquille St. Jacques and escargot Bourguignon, to Maurice’s signature soup, Potato and Leek, Baked Boston Haddock, Veggie Primavera and Bistro Tender (6 oz. Bistro Tender with sautéed mushrooms and onions in garlic butter and white wine). Dinner features Bistro Tender, too, but with a delightful selection of additional toppings (i.e., crab and mushrooms, shitake mushrooms, béarnaise sauce, Au Poivre, Cajun Black and Blue, and Bourbon Glaze). Other dishes on the dinner menu include Roasted Duck, Chicken Cordon Bleu, Veal Flambe and Apple Spiced Rum Pork. Dessert is a special treat at Maurice Restaurant because all of the cakes, pies, cheesecakes, mousse, creme brule and apple crisp are fresh and made in the restaurant’s kitchen. Maurice Restaurant also caters events and offers food to go.   

Sunday Brunch is not to be missed! The variety of egg dishes on the menu includes omelets, Eggs Benedict, Eggs Maurice with bacon and cheddar cheese and hollandaise sauce, Eggs Blackstone with bacon and tomato and hollandaise sauce, and Eggs Alaska with crabmeat! Hot and cold sandwiches may be ordered, and there is always dessert (Chocolate Mousse, Hot Fudge Brownie Deluxe, Crème de Cassis Parfait, Crème de Menthe Parfait, Kahlua Parfait, and Chef’s Choice Layer Cake). 

Maurice Restaurant has gained a reputation for its wine selection and wine tasting dinners. 

The founding owner of Maurice Restaurant, Maurice Andre, was from Paris, France and Geneva, Switzerland. Maurice and his wife Louisa opened the restaurant in 1976 which quickly acquired a reputation for the quality of its wine list and the authenticity of its menu. Four years after Maurice opened the restaurant it was purchased by new owners who added a luncheon menu and almost doubled the seating capacity. In 2000 Corey Sumner purchased the restaurant and continues to operate it today. Corey started out as a dish washer and line cook and eventually completed the culinary program at Central Maine Community College before assuming ownership of it. Today he is the Executive Chef and Owner of Maurice Restaurant.
