Community Concepts

The Western Maine Economic Development Council (WMEDC) is a division of Community Concepts, Inc., a primary provider of social services that promotes self-sufficiency within the people of the communities of Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford Counties, Maine. In 2008, Community Concepts created WMEDC to stimulate economic development in Oxford County and beyond.Community Concepts’ mission is “to coordinate, collaborate and focus resources to help people in need build opportunities for a better tomorrow.” Each department and program within Community Concepts has its own mission. WMEDC’s mission is “to create economic opportunity and improve the quality of life in Western Central Maine.” To achieve its mission, WMEDC believes in promoting a regional economic development approach that ensures:

  • Communities are prepared for growth by seeking their input and building productive partnerships with municipal, county and state government, businesses and other regional economic development partners.
  • Job growth and investment with resources that make a difference. The key areas of emphasis for regional development include: business growth and retention, job creation, business lending, workforce development, transportation infrastructure, and effective advocacy for and marketing of Oxford County.
